यूपीएससी परीक्षा के नतीजो में शुरूआती चार सीटों पर लड़कियों ने कब्ज़ा किया है. लेकिन इन चारों में भी सबसे ज़्यादा चर्चा है इरा सिंघल की जिन्होंने देश में पहली पोजीशन हासिल की है.
वैसे तो इरा को इससे पहले साल 2010 में भी यूपीएससी परीक्षा में कामयाबी मिली थी लेकिन उस दौरान उनका रैंक 813 था. लेकिन कामयाबी मिलने के बाद भी उनको नियुक्ति नहीं मिली क्योंकी सामने आ गयी उनकी शारीरिक अक्षमता. विभाग ने ये कहते हुए उनकी नियुक्ति नहीं की कि उनके हाथ सामान्य लोगों की तुलना में कमज़ोर है.
लेकिन इरा मायूस नहीं हुई ना ही उन्होंने हार मानी. इरा ने सरकारी विभाग के इस फैसले को साल 2012 में कैट यानी की सेंट्रल एडमिनिस्ट्रेटिव ट्रिब्यूनल में चुनौती दी. मामले की सुनवाई करीब 2 साल चली और आखिरकार फरवरी 2014 में फैसला इरा के पक्ष में आया और ट्रिब्यूनल ने डीओपीटी को निर्देश दिया की वो इरा को आईआरएस यानी की इंडियन रेवेनुए सर्विस में नियुक्ति दे.
इरा ने इसके बाद आईआरएस यानी की इंडियन रेवेनुए सर्विस ज्वाइन की. लेकिन उनका हौसला और उड़ान यहीं नहीं रुकनी थी. एक बार फिर इरा ने यूपीएससी की तैयारी की और इस बार अपना नाम दर्ज़ करवा दिया इतिहास के सुनहरे अक्षरों में.
